National Geographic joins Sky’s HDTV lineup

National Geographic has launch a new channel as part of Sky’s upcoming HDTV service.

The station is the first from a third-party broadcaster to join the HD lineup. Previously announced channels include HD versions of Artsworld and Sky One, two Sky Movies screens, one Sky Sports channel and one Sky Box Office channel.

National Geographic HD intends to offer “innovative factual programming produced in the UK and around the world, covering natural history, wildlife, science and world exploration.” Shows such as Oceans of Glass, Earth Shock: Volcano and Megastructures with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.
