The pace of technological advancements is gaining momentum at an ever-increasing rate.

No better proof of this claim exists than that which can be observed with the progression of new developments in television watching. TVs and programming have changed more in the last five years than they did in the previous 60.

Flat-panel LCD TVs, once the must-have object of desire for early adopters, are already considered nearly obsolete, supplanted by LEDs, Internet accessing smart TVs and 3-D capability is gaining widespread acceptance despite the relatively low amount of available 3-D content.

There was a time when a remote controlled television was an expensive option. Now, it is virtually impossible to buy a non-remote controlled television, with the possible exception of those with screen small enough to require viewing within arm’s length.

Television programming/signal access has undergone a similar rapid advance.

Over the air broadcasts are now exclusively digital signals. Other than a few glitches, the improvement in picture quality over analog broadcasts was so profound that sales of HDTVs have essentially wiped out the rear projection technology that was at the top of the pyramid 10 years ago.

The thirst for TV content is nearly insatiable. So much so, in fact, that satellite providers such as DirectStarTV has spent hundreds of millions of dollars for the ability to beam TV content up 23,000 miles into space and beam it down 23,000 miles to receivers, eliminating physical obstacles that previously hindered reception.

A very worthwhile byproduct of new TV technology has been a considerable reduction in the annual cost of the electricity needed by TVs.

There are no reliable predictions about the distant future of new TV technology. Short-term, the exponential growth of content streaming is certain to play a major role, so much so that seemingly competitive signal providers are embracing, rather than resisting, the capabilities of the Internet.

Runco, the leading brand in luxury display solutions, today announced that it is expanding its LightStyle Series with two new 3-chip DLP, 1080p projectors; the LS-10d and LS-10i. Designed to excel in both the dedicated theater as well as other rooms in the home, such as media rooms, basements, dens, these new Runco projectors deliver uncompromised 1080p 3-chip video performance at an astounding value.

Runco’s LightStyle Series projectors are a testament to Runco’s craftsmanship and video quality, and the new additions enable Runco to broaden the series with its highest resolution, most advanced performance options yet. Combining technology, design and brightness, the LS-10 projectors are not only powerhouse solutions for the dedicated home theater, but also boast performance and brightness to excel in other rooms of the home where very large, expensive, power-guzzling flat-screen TVs have traditionally been considered the only solution for large-screen viewing. Other rooms that are ideal for the LS-10 include the media room, basement, den, bonus or living spaces. The LS-10 boasts flawless HD imagery, practical integration features, and a sophisticated design that has won critical acclaim for its ability to complement any room’s decor.

“With this new affordable 3-chip, 1080p projector the LightStyle Series now offers a complete gamut of stylish and accessible projection solutions with the legendary quality and craftsmanship that is synonymous with the Runco brand,” said Jennifer Davis, vice president of marketing for Runco. “The Runco LS-10 projectors offer a no compromise 3-chip, 1080p, full high-definition solution that fits the needs of today’s homeowner in both performance and price.”

Runco’s LightStyle Series combines state-of-the-art DLP-based SuperOnyx technology with Runco ConstantContrast and Vivix image enhancement and proprietary video processing to achieve deep black levels and significant contrast. Both incorporate the ISF calibration suite for optimal performance in any room making Runco’s LS-10 projectors ideal for rooms beyond the dedicated home theater. These calibration tools feature day and night calibration memory settings, individual sharpness and noise reduction controls, programmable image memory selection keys, built-in test patterns and a dark room-optimized remote.

“The LS-10 projectors from Runco close a gap in the channel and satisfy needs with both installers and customers with its incredible performance and outstanding value,” said Ward Pitkin, Manager, 3-Chip projectors for Texas Instruments. “We are proud to be able to continue our outstanding relationship with Runco and continue to provide the most cutting edge technologies for the home theater market.”

The LS-10i features Runco’s legendary internal video processing for exceptional scaling and analog to digital signal conversion. The LS-10d ships with Runco’s award-winning Digital High-Definition external video processor offering the same processing and scaling as well as IR and RS-232 control and enables individual display calibration through the controller. Designed as a rack-mounted external processor, the DHD offers advanced connectivity options as well as installation flexibility because it can be located next to, and connect directly to, all other source components with a single-wire connection from the DHD to the projector, making it an ideal solution for retrofit installs.

The LS-10 projectors are available with Runco’s new CineGlide lens solution that enables a motorized, mechanical 2.35:1 anamorphic lens to move in front of the standard lens for perfect Scope reproduction. Runco CineGlide enables the viewer to switch from 16:9 content to 2.35:1 content, without black bars on the top or side of the image, with the touch of a button.

Its sleek, glamorous design and customization options make the Runco LightStyle Series projectors the perfect solution to pair with a design-conscious homeowner. Both the LS-10i and LS-10d can be customized with Runco’s FinishPalette, the latest element of the Design by Runco????? initiative. Runco’s FinishPalette enables full-color, large-format projector design options, including licensed logos from your favorite NCAA collegiate sports programs, a gallery of artist impressions and the option to custom-print your own artwork. Complementing the new FinishPalette offering are 25 new, hand-finished signature paint colors to compliment any decor.

The LS-10i will be available in October for an MSRP of $21,995 and LS-10d will be available in December for an MSRP of $26,995. All Runco displays feature a two-year RuncoCare standard warranty.

Test your new APC battery with a digital voltmeter. If the battery registers less than 12 volts, then they have been sitting around too long and are probably ruined.

Remove the two plastic covers on the two ends of the Smart UPS battery. Remove the 100-amp fuse joining the two halves together. Remove the cable as well. Lightly sand the face of both batteries on the side closer to the terminals.

Obtain Plastic Weld or any other equivalent adhesive from a hardware supply store. Use about 25% of the Plastic Weld and prepare the adhesive according to the instructions. Evenly apply the adhesive to one battery.

Install the cable and then the fuse. Make sure you don’t install the fuse first because doing so may short out the RBC7 battery.

Now you need to use double-sided tape or packaging tape to attach the two terminal covers. Re-assemble the UPS.

Turn on the UPS and pull the plug to make sure it runs on battery power. Allow the batteries to charge overnight.

Connect 30-50% non-varying load to the UPS and disconnect the power to the UPS using a circuit breaker or power strip. Let it run until it turns off completely. It should take from 45 minutes to an hour.

Start charging the battery immediately. Let it charge overnight.

Panasonic announced its two new full-HD camcorders, the HDC-SD100 and HDC-HS100, the world’s first AVCHD camcorders with a 3MOS system which provides superb video image quality.

The HDC-SD100 records to SD Memory Card, while the hybrid HDC-HS100 records to both SD Memory Card and to its internal 60 GB hard drive.

The world’s first AVCHD camcorders with a 3MOS system are newly developed by Panasonic and based on the company’s 3CCD technology, an already-established and renowned system that provides excellent color reproduction. With their expanded light-receiving areas, the MOS sensors also significantly improve image quality, even in low lighting. The three MOS sensors process the red, green, and blue components of incoming light separately, so color reproduction is superb. These sensors also have about double** the light-receiving area of CCD sensors, so image quality when shooting in low light is much higher. Compared with a conventional 1MOS, Panasonic’s new 3MOS system captures more vibrant, true-to-life colors, greater detail and richer gradation. This high-precision imaging element is first in the world*** to shoot in lighting as low as 2 lux and helps the SD100 and HS100 capture exceptionally clear, bright images.

Full-HD recording, with its total of 2,070,000 pixels, provides exceptional image details and rich colors. The Leica Dicomar lens system used in camcorders comprise 12 lenses in 9 groups, including aspherical lenses to improve resolution and contrast and an LD (low-dispersion) lens to help prevent color bleeding. Also, a special multi-coating process is applied to all lens elements to minimize chromatic aberration, so images are crisp, clear, and free of flare and ghosting. The use of a highly refractive lens also made it possible to have both 12x zoom power and a compact body.

The SD100 and HS100 are compatible with Panasonic’s VIERA Link?„?, allowing users to connect the camcorder to a VIERA HDTV via an HDMI cable, and operate the camcorder using the TV remote control, and following on-screen prompts. Furthermore, users can also take the SD Memory Cards from the camcorders and slip it into the SD card slot on a Panasonic PZ850 series VIERA HDTV, or a Panasonic BD50 or BD30 Blu-ray Disc?„? Player, and enjoy easy, instant large-screen viewing of stunning HD video.

Both Panasonic camcorders will be available in September 2008 for retail prices of $1,299.95 for the HDC-SD100 and $1,099.95 for the HDC-HS100.
